A groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 8th to kick-off construction on the new Pat Hurley Community Center.
The new one-story 5,000+ square foot building will replace two aging portables within Pat Hurley Park at 3828 Rincon Road NW. Phase 1 construction will include a game room, activity/crafts room, and computer lab as well as administrative offices and reception area. A future second phase will include a fitness room and meeting rooms with warming kitchen.
In response to incidents of vandalism and violence in the adjacent park over recent years, the design integrates proven Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) techniques as well as a variety of sustainable design strategies to minimize energy usage.
The groundbreaking ceremony included representatives from the City of Albuquerque’s Department of Family and Community Services and from T.A. Cole & Sons, the contractor selected for the project. Final completion of Phase 1 is expected in September 2017.
