Reserve K-12 School Replacement  |  Reserve, New Mexico

Greer Stafford’s design team worked closely with the Reserve Independent School District on this K-12 school replacement project. A major project goal was to reduce the core and academic square footage by nearly 50%, while complying with New Mexico State Adequacy Standards. This significant reduction in size greatly improves efficiency and reduces operating / maintenance costs over the long term. The new school now serves the same number of students (190 students and 31 staff) in a much more compact and efficient campus.

The entire campus has been re-organized and reconstructed. The former disjointed layout has been replaced with a single new building. Elementary and secondary grades are separated into separate wings, following a “learning communities” concept. Each learning community has its own multi-purpose common area for hands-on and group projects. The new design moves all related functions into closer proximity and improves the ability of the administration to monitor students and visitors.

The project also constructed a new outdoor athletic complex for football and track & field events as well as a 7,350 SF auxiliary gymnasium. An existing competition gymnasium was renovated and incorporated into the new campus design.

Site access was re-worked to provide safe access for parent and bus lanes, parking, and athletic access.

Construction was phased to avoid any need for temporary portable buildings and to minimize disruption to the learning process.
