Bear Canyon Senior Center Improvements | Albuquerque, New Mexico
Initially, Greer Stafford developed a Master Development Report for this aging 25-year-old facility. Working with end-users, staff and administration, our team documented inadequacies in the existing building and identified programmatic modifications necessary for a safe, efficient and functional senior center. The report summarized these prioritized needs and made recommendations for improvements and expansion, along with conceptual costs for each. The report was approved, and Greer Stafford was subsequently awarded a contract for the design & construction of the project.
The new design focused on expanding the building space by enclosing the courtyard into a multi-purpose area with natural daylighting. Other prioritized improvements included new roofing and HVAC units for the entire building, new fire sprinkling, and updates to the public rest rooms to meet current ADA standards. Additional work included the expansion & renovation of the administrative offices, the addition of a new entry plaza and drop-off area near the front entrance, expansion of the ADA parking, and re-landscaping of designated areas around the building and south parking lot.
